Dauterive Welcomes New OB/Gyn
August 03, 2011
NEW IBERIA, La. – Practicing medicine is the only thing Dr. Breigh Foster, OB/Gyn, imagined herself doing from a young age.
“I was always interested in science. I enjoyed helping others. Medicine married the two,” said Dr. Foster, who this month joins the physicians at Total Women’s Health – Dr. Donald Blue, Dr. R. Joseph Fernandez, Dr. Craig Gauthier and Dr. Gilbert Pellerin. The office is located at 520 N. Lewis Ave., Suite 103, on the Dauterive Hospital campus.
Dauterive Hospital is excited to welcome a physician of Dr. Foster’s caliber to the Teche Area community, said Alan Fabian, Chief Executive Officer.
“Dr. Foster made several academic and leadership accomplishments before coming to the Teche Area,” Fabian explained, “but it’s her approach to patient care that makes her such a great fit for our community. She speaks to patients as though they are consulting with a trusted friend, not just a gifted physician.”
That’s one of the main reasons Dr. Foster chose to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
“No other specialty allows the physician to share such private and special moments during a time of vulnerability,” she said. “That, for me, is truly rewarding.”
A New Iberia native, Dr. Foster earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from LSU in Baton Rouge in 1999 and later a master of natural science degree from the same school with a focus on biochemistry and zoology. She acquired her doctorate in 2007 at LSU health Sciences Center in Shreveport before performing her residency at Oschner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans.
Professional affiliations include the American Medical Association, the Louisiana State Medical Society and a junior fellowship with the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
