Louisiana House of Representatives expected to make drastic cuts to Medicaid
May 14, 2012
Louisiana Representatives began debate on HB 1, the appropriations bill on the House Floor May 10th which is expected to make drastic cuts to the Medicaid program for ALL healthcare providers.
The debate centers on the use of $268 million in one-time funding to support ongoing state operations. The LHA’s position is to support the use of one-time funding to protect critical services such as healthcare. In addition to the 2 percent cut in hospital Medicaid reimbursement proposed in the Executive Budget, community hospitals could face an additional 1.7 percent reduction at minimum, a number which could grow larger depending on the legislature.
The LHA produced a radio ad regarding the cuts that began airing May 11th. It will be played in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, New Orleans and Alexandria at times when legislators are at the Capitol and on their drive to and from Baton Rouge.
Please contact your Representative – by making a personal phone call or online at LHActNow and urge him/her to “OPPOSE the budget cuts to community hospitals, and use all resources available, including one time dollars, to protect vital healthcare services.
